Fonality, a maker of business phone systems, was named the top “Rising Star” yesterday in Deloitte & Touche USA LLP’s Technology Fast 50 program. To date, Fonality has signed more than 2,500 customers in 50 countries, serving 53,000 business users who have placed more than 130 million calls using its award-winning VoIP-capable PBXtra™phone system. PBXtra was also recently recognized as an Editors’ Choice by PC Magazine and Product of the Year by Internet Telephony. Fonality built its PBXtra product specifically for the small to medium-sized business (SMB) market, and has established itself as a market leader by providing an enterprise-class phone system at a price the SMB can afford.
The Rising Star award is a special designation for fast-growth companies that have been in business a minimum of three years, but less than five and is part of the Los Angeles Technology Fast 50 program. The Los Angeles Technology Fast 50 program ranks the 50 fastest-growing technology, media, telecommunications, and life sciences companies headquartered in the Los Angeles area. Rankings are based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2004 - 2006).
“Our team here never fails to impress me,” said Chris Lyman, CEO of Fonality. “We’ve achieved ‘Rising Star’ status by working 24/7 to ensure that our customers get what they want, which is a hassle-free phone system for a fraction of the cost that the big boys charge. Fonality is honored to receive this award and I am personally honored to get to work with my amazing team everyday.”
Fonality was founded in early 2003 as a VoIP network provider, and as the company grew Lyman decided it needed a multi-line phone system. Shocked at the price of typical PBX offerings, Fonality developed its own in-house IP-PBX system which eventually became PBXtra, its flagship product. PBXtra has been strengthened since its first home-grown version to introduce scalability, security and ease-of-use into every corner of the product.
To qualify for the Technology Fast 50 Rising Star program, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2004 and $5,000,000 in 2006, be headquartered in North America, and own proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating revenues or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology.
Rising Star companies are automatically entered in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 Rising Star category. Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 program ranks North America’s top 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, and life sciences companies based on percentage revenue growth over five years (2002 - 2006). Its Rising Star ranking is based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2004 - 2006).
