AT&T Awarded $120-Million Contract Extension from the U.S. Postal Service

attAT&T (NYSE: T) Government Solutions has announced a $120-million contract extension to support U. S. Postal Service facilities across the country under the Postal Advanced Telecommunications Network (PATN) contract.

Under terms of the agreement, AT&T will provide Managed Network Services such as IP address management, design and engineering, onsite installation, router, firewall, and Interactive Voice Response. The AT&T global Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled network, a fully managed, highly secure, scalable data network, will continue to serve as the platform for this innovative network solution.

Increased traffic demands from continued deployment of applications are forcing many organizations like the U.S. Postal Service to address growing bandwidth demands while enhancing network performance. The AT&T MPLS solution can help provide the necessary bandwidth securely and efficiently to expand application use across organizations.

“To meet the continued demand for bandwidth, agencies like the U.S. Postal Service must be able to enhance their networks in an efficient and cost-effective manner,” said Don Herring, senior vice president, AT&T Government Solutions, AT&T Global Services, Inc. “AT&T has a proven track record of helping companies transform their operations with choice and simplicity, enabling them to better serve customers.”

AT&T also provides BlackBerry® 8800 series handsets and voice and data services to U.S. Postal Service employees nationwide via an AT&T wireless solution.

The contract extension has a term of four years.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
