xoXO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) announced today that it is the recipient of the 2009 U.S. Emerging Company of the Year award in the MPLS/IP VPN Services Market category by Frost & Sullivan, a leading research and consulting firm.

The award commends XO Communications for its early and strategic investment in Ethernet over Copper technologies. XO Communications’ investment in this technology, which began several years ago, today enables the company to offer the broadest range of Ethernet access to support the wider delivery of advanced networking solutions such as MPLS IP-VPN to businesses and carrier customers across the United States.

Frost & Sullivan presents the Emerging Company Award each year to the company that has emerged as a significant participant within its industry, along with exhibiting outstanding management, market growth and customer service. Honorees are selected via predetermined criteria, interviews with customers and suppliers, secondary research and an analysis of the company’s overall efforts. The annual Emerging Company Award is part of Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practice Awards, which recognize technology excellence and leadership in a wide range of categories.

“Frost & Sullivan believes XO is positioned to emerge as a significant competitor in the U.S. MPLS/IP VPN space,” said Roopa Shree H, senior industry analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “XO’s strategic decision to invest early on in Ethernet over Copper offerings, which today enables XO to offer the broadest range of Ethernet access to MPLS/IP VPN, will significantly contribute to MPLS/IP VPN demand in the market.”

With deployments in 75 major metropolitan markets, XO Communications has the industry’s largest deployment of Ethernet over Copper technology. This past April, XO Communications enhanced its Ethernet solutions portfolio even further by offering an expanded range of incremental Ethernet access speeds from 3 Mbps to 10 Gbps for its Dedicated Internet Access, Ethernet Private Line and MPLS IP-VPN services.

“This recognition by Frost & Sullivan reinforces XO Communications’ dedication to offering businesses and carriers a wide range of Ethernet solutions that increase productivity and extend service options,” said Vince Margiotta, vice president of product marketing at XO Communications. “With the ability to serve customers via fiber or last mile copper, Ethernet is an excellent alternative to traditional access methods, and XO is committed to providing the latest and most innovative solutions to its customers.”
