XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) today announced the promotion of Barbara Polk to senior vice president of human resources, effective immediately. A seasoned professional, Polk brings more than 20 years of experience in human resources management and strategic consulting for both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
In her new role, Polk is responsible for leading the company’s human resources strategy and working with XO’s senior management team to ensure that all human resources programs align with the company’s overarching business goals. This entails developing and implementing a wide range of human resources programs and functions for XO’s employees nationwide, including employee relations, education, management systems, recruiting, compensation and benefits. Polk will report directly to Carl Grivner, chief executive officer of XO.

Previously, Polk served as vice president of human resources at XO, where she directed all corporate and regional human resources management and operations, including training, employee communications, human resources management systems and workforce planning. Prior to joining XO, she led the human resources department and strategy at Reading is Fundamental, Inc., the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit children’s literacy organization. Polk also brings a depth of industry experience, having worked with leading organizations such as Suburban Hospital Healthcare System, MCI Communications, American Gas Association and Revlon, Inc.
A graduate of Rutgers University, Polk has a Bachelor’s degree in political science. She’s also working towards her Master’s degree in human resources management from the University of Maryland.
