Savvis, a CenturyLink company (NYSE: CTL) and global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, today announced the limited release of Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage, which combines global accessibility and unlimited capacity with the reliability and protection businesses demand.

While any business can access Symphony Cloud Storage over the public Internet, existing clients who use the CenturyLink private network will not pay data transfer fees when downloading data. In addition, Savvis clients that host or colocate in a cloud storage-enabled data center do not pay transfer fees to move data between their cloud storage and infrastructure.

Additional key features of the pay-per-use Symphony Cloud Storage offering include:

  • Simple replication choices, providing businesses with the flexibility to choose where their data is stored, while a global namespace model allows end users to analyze the data collectively without needing to know the storage location for each piece of data;
  • Access from anywhere, leveraging Savvis’ global scale, stretching across multiple data centers around the world and accessible on any device – including mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones;
  • Unlimited and affordable storage with no term or capacity commitment required, paying only for what is used;
  • Massive scale, allowing users to scale up or down without the constraints of traditional storage infrastructure;
  • The security of penalty-backed service-level agreements and 24/7 support.

“Enterprises need flexible cloud services – like Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage – that they can easily integrate into their applications,” said Daniel Patton, vice president and general manager of cloud services at Savvis. “Symphony Cloud Storage draws on our infrastructure expertise, global IT portfolio and robust network to provide developers with a secure and unlimited storage solution.”

Savvis Unveils Virtual Hosting Services for China

Savvis, a CenturyLink company (NYSE: CTL), expanded its website hosting capabilities for global brands that need a web presence in China.

Companies that host their web content using cloud computing, managed hosting or colocation at one of Savvis’ data centers in Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo can now take advantage of virtual hosting services that simplify the process of getting web content into China while also achieving the end-user experience benefits of a local web presence.

Complex local rules, poor interconnectivity and latency issues at international gateways plague foreign websites directed at China, impacting page loads and speed for consumers throughout the country. In addition, many global brands with online businesses face difficulty obtaining licenses for hosting content within China.

“Chief marketing officers know that China is one of the most desirable markets in the world, but complicated regulations and other issues prevent their e-commerce sites, online product promotions and other web content from reaching this coveted audience,” said Mark Smith, managing director, Asia, at Savvis. “Savvis’ new virtual hosting service expands our array of enterprise-class offerings, making it easy for companies to enter the Chinese market and satisfy the consumer appetite for websites of foreign brands.”

A website-acceleration solution enables the virtual hosting services, using caching and dynamic delivery technologies to distribute web content to end-users in China through a widespread network of in-country content delivery network (CDN) nodes.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – CenturyLink Inc. (NYSE: CTL) today donated 20 new bicycles to the Dr. Piper Center for the nonprofit’s 97th Annual Christmas Party later this year. Executives from CenturyLink, including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Karen Puckett traveled to Fort Myers to make the donation in person.

“We are so impressed with the Dr. Piper Center’s commitment to helping less fortunate children every Christmas for the last 97 years,” said Taylor Chestnut, CenturyLink’s vice president and general manager for southwest Florida. “Giving back to the communities we serve is an important part of CenturyLink’s culture and this donation is a great way to show this commitment.”

CenturyLink employees built the bicycles as part of a team building exercise earlier this year. The bikes are sized for elementary school children.

“We are very grateful to CenturyLink for this donation,” said Nida Eluna, executive director for Dr. Piper Center. “We provide gifts to hundreds of children every Christmas and we always need more bicycles.”

CenturyLink Service Technician Larry Willis spoke at the presentation. Willis grew up in Fort Myers and says he looked forward to the Dr. Piper Center Christmas every year.

XM Asia Pacific Selects Savvis Cloud to Host Clients’ Digital Engagement Platform

XM Asia Pacific, a leading provider of digital marketing and technology consulting services, will host its clients’ digital engagement platform on Savvis’ enterprise-class cloud infrastructure.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20111122/CG10879LOGO)

The business-critical sites will be hosted on the Savvis Symphony Open public cloud platform through Savvis’ data centre in Singapore.

“As more customers adopt online channels to increase their reach, we realised that the most effective way to ensure maximum availability of our clients’ digital engagement platform was to migrate from our private servers to a secure, highly available cloud service,” said Vince Lui, managing director, XM Asia Pacific. “The ability for us to help our clients’ digital experience platforms scale quickly to varying server loads by using the Savvis cloud platform has reduced our costs significantly by moving from a capital expense model to one based on operational expense. The move to Savvis improved customer campaign results and, in turn, improved client satisfaction.”

The e-commerce solutions provided by XM Asia Pacific required a scalable infrastructure that built sufficient capacity for peak demands and prevented downtimes. When approached for a solution, Savvis initially provided XM Asia Pacific with a test-and-development environment, which became the working solution.

XM Asia Pacific cited as factors in its decision to select Savvis the absence of long-term contracts, reduced deployment time, generous capacity management policies, robust service-level agreements and security, global availability via regional Savvis-managed data centres and Savvis’ track record of successful cloud deployments.

“Digital businesses today are measured by their customers’ online experiences. A slow page load may result in a missed opportunity to collect critical feedback, or worse, send that customer to a competitor,” said Mark Smith, managing director of Asia for Savvis. “Companies like XM Asia Pacific are becoming more forward-looking and deploying Savvis’ cloud and IT infrastructure solutions, helping to meet their evolving digital needs in Asia and beyond. We are excited to work with XM Asia Pacific and support its long-term business growth.”

Through Savvis’ infrastructure in Singapore, XM Asia Pacific supports and offers its services to its client base in China, Australia and Japan.
