Fonality unifies CRM and telephony

November 5, 2007

Fonality®, a leading maker of business phone systems, announced today that it will create the industry’s first phone system that unifies both telephony and customer relationship management (CRM) for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). As part of the initiative, the company has acquired Insightful Solutions Pty Ltd., a leading hosted CRM solution provider and a SugarCRM Gold partner for the Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific regions.

Over the past two years, Insightful has made substantial enhancements to SugarCRM’s Sugar Professional product and hosts more than 1,000 seats in 13 countries at the company’s three global data centers. By combining Insightful’s CRM expertise with Fonality’s awarding-winning telephony suite, small businesses will have an affordable solution that unifies employees with presence management, instant messaging, fixed and mobile calling, and provides a single 360-degree view of customers and business partners

“Fonality has over 1,000 hybrid-hosted call centers deployed in 25 different countries and our hybrid-hosted platform is a powerful framework for delivering integrated applications directly to the SMB with no investment in premise equipment required,” said Chris Lyman, Fonality CEO. “Telephony and CRM have a naturally concentric relationship, so this is a good place to leverage hybrid-hosted and we are thrilled that the great folks at Insightful have joined forces with us to accelerate our unified offering to the global SMB marketplace.”

As part of the deal, Fonality will also begin selling Insightful’s CRM managed service offering immediately. Called FonalityCRM, it integrates Sugar Professional with Fonality’s PBXtra and trixbox Pro IP-PBX applications. FonalityCRM provides click-to-call dialing, agent screen pops, telephone campaign management for outbound sales teams, and more. It is hosted at one of the six Fonality data centers and available immediately to PBXtra and trixbox Pro customers worldwide. The underlying FonalityCRM managed service platform was developed by Insightful to provide a complete on-demand offering that is updated, maintained, backed-up and always available. Fonality will leverage Insightful’s knowledge and experience supporting Sugar Professional deployments, as well as its own world-class support infrastructure.

Marc Englaro, co-founder and CEO of Insightful, is now general manager of Fonality’s CRM Division. Before founding Insightful, Englaro was director and principal consultant with Si2, leading its open source consulting practice. He will remain in his role as director of Open Source Industry Australia (OSIA), the country’s national industry body for open source adoption. The Insightful team brings valuable CRM development and marketing expertise, and all employees will continue to work for Fonality. The Insightful offices in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore will remain open.

“In Fonality we found a like-minded team which values going beyond simple integration, and building fully conjoined products that expand the definition of what’s on the market today,” said Englaro. “Together we’re going to continue to raise the bar for what people expect from both VoIP and CRM.”

Fonality named A Rising Star

October 4, 2007

Fonality, a maker of business phone systems, was named the top “Rising Star” yesterday in Deloitte & Touche USA LLP’s Technology Fast 50 program. To date, Fonality has signed more than 2,500 customers in 50 countries, serving 53,000 business users who have placed more than 130 million calls using its award-winning VoIP-capable PBXtraphone system. PBXtra was also recently recognized as an Editors’ Choice by PC Magazine and Product of the Year by Internet Telephony. Fonality built its PBXtra product specifically for the small to medium-sized business (SMB) market, and has established itself as a market leader by providing an enterprise-class phone system at a price the SMB can afford.

The Rising Star award is a special designation for fast-growth companies that have been in business a minimum of three years, but less than five and is part of the Los Angeles Technology Fast 50 program. The Los Angeles Technology Fast 50 program ranks the 50 fastest-growing technology, media, telecommunications, and life sciences companies headquartered in the Los Angeles area. Rankings are based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2004 - 2006).

“Our team here never fails to impress me,” said Chris Lyman, CEO of Fonality. “We’ve achieved ‘Rising Star’ status by working 24/7 to ensure that our customers get what they want, which is a hassle-free phone system for a fraction of the cost that the big boys charge. Fonality is honored to receive this award and I am personally honored to get to work with my amazing team everyday.”

Fonality was founded in early 2003 as a VoIP network provider, and as the company grew Lyman decided it needed a multi-line phone system. Shocked at the price of typical PBX offerings, Fonality developed its own in-house IP-PBX system which eventually became PBXtra, its flagship product. PBXtra has been strengthened since its first home-grown version to introduce scalability, security and ease-of-use into every corner of the product.

To qualify for the Technology Fast 50 Rising Star program, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2004 and $5,000,000 in 2006, be headquartered in North America, and own proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating revenues or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology.

Rising Star companies are automatically entered in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 Rising Star category. Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 program ranks North America’s top 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, and life sciences companies based on percentage revenue growth over five years (2002 - 2006). Its Rising Star ranking is based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2004 - 2006). VAR Network and Fonality strategic partnership

September 26, 2007

VARNetwork, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telarus Inc, today announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with Fonality, a leader in open source, Asterisk®-based IP telephony systems. Under the terms of the deal, Fonality will become a premiere PBX equipment vendor within the Telarus VAR Network, and have access to telecom contracts when Telarus equipment customers need broadband and voice service.

“We are excited to do business with Fonality” explained Adam Edwards, president of Telarus. “The essence of a successful and profitable relationship is the ability to tap into each organization’s strengths. Our VAR Network attracts businesses looking for IP telephony solutions, and Fonality attracts customers in need of telecommunication services. Both companies help the other be successful in their area of expertise.”

“Together, we’re putting affordable and easy-to-use phone systems into growing businesses, making them more competitive and allowing them to take advantage of cost savings that IP communications can deliver,” said David Eads, Fonality’s Senior Director of Sales. “We are pleased to be part of the network that matches customers with the right resources at the right time.”

Telarus created the VAR Network in 2003 as a way to connect its agents to the thousands of telecom equipment manufactures and dealers throughout the country. Since then over 2,000 VARs have been receiving equipment leads from Telarus marketing agents and consultants in return for telecom service leads.

“Fonality is a great company who does an excellent job bringing high-end capability to small businesses on a budget” added Robert Butler, director of the Telarus VAR Network. “We look forward to finding new opportunities for Fonality to grow their business as well as providing top notch service for their clients looking for telecommunication services. Likewise, kudos to our respective IT departments for being able to synchronize our customer and pricing databases. Having the capability to send new leads directly into Fonality’s CRM will further increase the likelihood of customer wins.”

In August 2007 Fonality’s PBXtra™ IP-PBX was named Editors’ Choice by PC Magazine in a roundup against competing open and closed source phone systems of similar price. More than 2,500 companies with 53,000 phones in 50 countries have adopted PBXtra and placed more than 130 million VoIP and traditional calls.

Fonality, the world’s largest deployment of Asterisk-based phone systems, today announced that more than 2,500 customers with 53,000 phones in 50 countries have adopted its award winning business phone system, PBXtra, and have used it to place more than 130 million VoIP and traditional calls. The high growth is fueled by increasing demand from small and medium-sized businesses for affordable, easy to use, feature-rich alternatives to the high-cost offerings sold by traditional communications companies.

PBXtra is a VoIP-capable phone system designed to be purchased, installed and managed by non-technical professionals. Fonality’s patent-pending, hybrid-hosted technology enables seamless use of PBXtra to support branch offices, as well as mobile and home-based workers. “The open telephony market is continuing to accelerate,” said Chris Lyman, Fonality CEO. “Fonality is proud to be leading that charge with PBXtra and trixbox.”

Fonality’s PBXtra business phone system delivers more functionality with significantly improved ease of use at 40 to 80 percent less than the cost of comparable systems from larger companies. Out of the box, PBXtra supports advanced auto-attendant features, telecommuters, branch offices, drag and drop call controls, conferencing and cross-office intercoms, as well as a host of other easy to use advanced features. Fonality and its partners provide 24/7 technical support and the patent-pending hybrid-hosted architecture ensures reliability by allowing real-time monitoring and remote system management.
