Quagga Corporation acquired by PAETEC

PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS: PAET), a FORTUNE 1000 company, announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, PAETEC Corp., has closed on the acquisition of Quagga Corporation, a privately-held Sacramento-based company. As a world-class systems integrator, Quagga is the top Avaya partner on the West Coast, with expertise in IP-based voice and video systems for medium and large businesses. The company also specializes in data and business process management as well as consulting, design and maintenance of communication systems. Upon the closing of this acquisition, Quagga will become part of PAETEC’s Integrated Services Group (ISG) focused on delivering complete equipment-based communications solutions to businesses nationwide.

Polycom and Siemens Partner on Unified Communications

Siemens Enterprise Communications Group (SEN Group and Polycom, Inc. [Nasdaq: PLCM] today announced a strategic alliance and global resale agreement that will enable customers to leverage the productivity and cost-saving benefits of Polycom telepresence, high definition (HD) video conferencing solutions and desktop video collaboration applications through seamless integration with the OpenScape UC environment. By adopting a state-of-the-art UC environment, organizations can not only take advantage of innovative video solutions from Polycom, but they can increase collaboration and customer responsiveness while reducing conferencing costs and the need for employee travel.

Polycom to enrich IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5

In conjunction with IBM Lotusphere taking place next week in Orlando, Fla., Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM) announced an expansion of its integrated voice and visual communication solutions for customers deploying IBM Unified Communication and Collaboration (UC2) environments with support for Lotus Sametime and Lotus Notes. The combined solution is designed to give users “one-click” access to on-demand voice and video collaboration tools from within Lotus software applications that can enhance teamwork, reduce costs, and help accelerate enterprise decision making among colleagues, customers and business partners.

In addition, Lotus Sametime Web conferencing users will be able to launch Instant Meetings with voice and video conferences, or include a voice or video conference as part of scheduled web conference.

Polycom Appoints D. Scott Mercer To Board Of Directors

Polycom, Inc. [NASDAQ; PLCM], the market leader in unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced it has appointed D. Scott Mercer to its board of directors. Mercer is a recognized technology industry leader whose career spans three decades across various executive functions from operations and strategic planning to finance, within the storage and computer industry segments.

Mercer is currently the chairman of the board at Adaptec, Inc. having served as its interim CEO in 2005. He was also at Western Digital Corporation as its chief financial and administrative officer in the early 90s, returning 2001-2004 as its CFO during which time he also served as advisor to the CEO regarding business development matters. At Dell in the late 90s he served in vice president of finance roles, and as Dell’s vice president of product development for its desktop and notebook product lines. Mercer’s other executive positions have included CFO of TeraLogic, Inc., CFO and controller of LSI Logic Corporation, and as an accountant with Price Waterhouse.
